During one of my routine cookbook searches, I came across a listing for a Betty Feezor cookbook. It was misspelled as Feasor, but I’m not saying a word. If it gets corrected, more people might see it.
Also, it’s listed at a relatively new store up in Salisbury which is near my work. So, unless you’re a super dedicated fan, I’m not sure if you’re driving to the ‘bury. The only thing is, I’m seeing this listing on a Friday afternoon…after I’ve already left work. And I’m not planning on driving all the way back.
My hope is that with the misspelling of Betty’s name and the driving distance involved, it’ll still be there on Monday.
So, Monday rolls around and I head over to the store on my lunch hour. This store seems like it’s nearby, but I have never been on this part of town.
As I walk in, it’s a nice store but what I would consider a consignment antique store. Lots of vendors with their own sections of the store. I’m seeing rows of white bookshelves so I’m slowly walking up and down each aisle.
I’m not seeing it anywhere. Nothing resembles the white shelves I saw in the picture on Facebook. Once I end up in a back room, I know I’m in the wrong area. So I head back out and start a slow scan.
And there she is….I’d walked right past her!
Betty Feezor’s Best (Betty Feezor). This is the red cover, the original from 1957!
Her cover is not in the best shape as the bottom left corner has been torn away. But it’s the original.
And the price tag is kinda pricey.
I begin to flip through and see recipe clippings inserted between the pages.
And on the title page, several handwritten recipes take up the open space..and there at the top of the page:
"Best wishes, Betty Feezor"
Oh man! It’s first edition, first printing AND autographed!
Betty is coming home with me!
