So, remember how I saved up my money and got all brave by purchasing the new Microsoft Surface Pro 2? Well, I’ve had it right about six months and now I’m already obsolete.
The ads came swift and furious about 3 weeks ago. Microsoft was getting ready to launch the Surface 3. And now, after only having the Surface Pro 2 since December, I’m behind the times.
Seriously? Six months? Don’t companies usually have the courtesy of waiting at least a year or more before they launch a newer, improved version of a piece of hardware? And all that advertising they did last fall and into the Christmas holiday season. That must’ve cost them a fortune!
Not to mention all the product placement they did. I spotted them on the now-cancelled series, Intelligence, on CBS and it was the only piece of hardware you could see on the table during any NFL coverage and the Super Bowl broadcast. If you had an open slot on your broadcast to blatantly feature a tablet—the Surface filled that spot every time.
That took a lot of work and coordination to accomplish all that. And yet, here we are watching a television commercial and email campaign pushing Surface 3. Wider screen, adjustable kickstand…have they added enough to warrant a launch of a new product line?
They haven’t given me enough time to be considered the one on the cutting edge of tablet technology!
I’ve only just invested in a fancy-schmancy quilted carrying case and a fun leather folio case. All I know is that financially speaking, I’m going to have to be good with my outdated version for a while longer. Maybe I’ll gussy it up with a new skin and make it more exotic looking…
