Just after St. Patrick’s Day, we decided to have a nice Sunday lunch over at the U.S. National Whitewater Center. Now, I’m not an outdoorsy kind of person. No secret there…if you know me personally, I think my cadaver white skin tone really gives that away. But anyway, we drove out to the Whitewater Center and had a nice meal at the River’s Edge Bar & Grill. And here’s the good news, you don’t have to pay any entrance fee (other than the $5 parking fee) if you just want to eat at the restaurant.
We grabbed a table under the canopy outside of River’s Edge. It’s a great spot for relaxing because the sounds of the rapids are right there in front of you. The menu is really varied with traditional appetizers, hot sandwiches, soups, salads and interesting sides.
I ordered the Cuban sandwich filled with roasted turkey breast, black forest ham, Swiss cheese with a chipotle dijonaise spread on toasted ciabatta bread. I got the sweet potato fries on the side. Yum!!!
Scott is much more adventurous with the spice and ordered the Chipotle Chicken sandwich. His sandwich arrived with a grilled chicken breast, smoked bacon, pepper jack cheese and chipotle dijonaise spread. For his side item, he went with the bean & chow-chow salad.
Duncan has decided that he needed to graduate from the kid’s menu and ordered the Smokey BBQ Chicken sandwich. That sandwich came with a grilled chicken breast, Swiss cheese and BBQ sauce. He prefers the regular seasoned fries.
Colin actually broke from tradition and went out…way out on a culinary limb and ordered the Banana Fluff Sandwich. He’s never had one (neither have I, by the way) and this is his first!
Really nice lunch! I can imagine what a feast this must be after a morning of white water rafting, kayaking and mountain biking. Plus, for you discerning beer drinkers out there, they have Olde Meck Copper on tap.
Oh yeah…remember the $5 parking fee? There’s a coupon on the parking tag which gives you a complimentary dessert with the purchase of a meal. We didn’t see that coupon this time around, but you can bet I’ll use it on our next trip out to River’s Edge. What do you think? Seasonal fruit cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or S’mores Pie?
