Yea! Juanita called me! She found some more cookbooks—and the pie safe was still available! She had been out of town on a trip, but was now back and I could come look through the cookbooks and pick up the pie safe.
I went over in the evening after work and she helped me load up the pie safe. I had sized it up and believed it would fit in my car if I folded down the back seats. But as we were walking towards my car, (with me walking backwards in the soggy yard!) I started to wonder if it would fit.
Plus, I was able to look through the extra cookbooks she found. I went back and forth over three but finally picked out these two:
The Plantation Cookbook from the Junior League of New Orleans and Mandy’s Favorite Louisiana Recipes by Natalie V. Scott.
The Plantation Cookbook is a first edition, which is all sorts of awesome. But take a look at the inside cover flap.
It’s a receipt for the cookbook from a store called Logos and paid with check number 2923. You can see the original price of $7.95 and tax of forty-two cents…but what’s that extra charge for a quarter? I wonder…
